Next up for the Boys in Brown after the 1-1 home draw against Kaiserslautern is a visit to SV Sandhausen on Monday evening (kick-off: 2030 CET). We ran the rule over the side currently sitting in fifth place in the table and, as usual, have compiled a few facts and figures.
Sandhausen bulwark
Having conceded just eight times in the first ten games, SV Sandhausen have the best defensive record in the league. Kenan Kocak's side have been particularly impressive at home, winning four out of five at the BWT Stadium and conceding just twice – in the sole defeat against league leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf (1-2).
Schuhen a shoo-in
Goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen has been a major factor in Sandhausen conceding a measly eight goals. The 24-year-old joined the club from third-division Hansa Rostock in summer and has played every minute so far. The Rhinelander has already kept five clean sheets, a feat matched only by our very own Robin Himmelmann.
No goal fests
While games involving newly promoted Holstein Kiel have been high-scoring affairs, with 40 goals to date, those with Sandhausen have seen the fewest (21). Monday night's game against the Boys in Brown shows little likelihood of being a goal fest, then, as the games featuring Olaf Janßen's side have produced the second-fewest number of goals (22).
Sharpshooter Höler
Sandhausen have hit the net just 13 times this season. Five of those goals were scored by Lucas Höler, who has also provided two assists to make him his side's most dangerous player. Höler's markers have often had to resort to illegal means to keep him in check: the 23-year-old has already been fouled 36 times. Höler is not the only player Janßen's side will have to keep an eye on, however, as full-backs Philipp Klingmann and Leart Paqarada have both contributed two goals this term.
Lots of fouls, not many bookings
The Boys in Brown have not only committed the lowest number of fouls this season (107), they've also collected the fewest yellow cards (10). Sandhausen are proof that the two statistics need not have a correlation. Despite committing more fouls than any other team in the league (178), a total of 21 bookings means they still occupy a respectable fourth place in the fair play table.
Monday night premiere
If you've ever wondered how many times Sandhausen have played on a Monday night since gaining promotion to the second division in 2012, we can reveal the answer: just once! It was an away game at Karlsruhe on 2 May 2016 and they lost 3-0. The visit of the Boys in Brown will thus be the first time they have played at home on a Monday evening. By way of comparison, St. Pauli have already run out 24 times on a Monday night since the summer of 2012.
