MIYAICHI: "I'M HAVING LOTS OF FUN WITH MY KIDS"

Ryo Miyaichi is known among the players for his talent as a singer. So it came as no surprise when he recently joined in the singing on a "You’ll never walk alone" video. And Ryo loves to belt out a tune with his two kids as well. We caught up with our No12 at a digital press conference called to discuss the current situation.
Hi Ryo, how are you and the family?
We're good, thanks! All the playgrounds are closed at the moment so we're having to spend a lot of time in the flat. It's a bit different than usual but I'm still having a lot of fun with my kids.
What's it like watching the situation at home in Japan from afar?
Fortunately, my family are doing OK. In general, I think the situation is comparable with the one here in Germany. People are having to stay at home and keep apart.
How did you spend Easter?
I hid some chocolate in the garden for the kids. The weather was really nice that weekend, so they had a lot of fun searching. It was a nice day.
A few days ago you all joined together to sing "You’ll never walk alone" as a way of thanking the fans for their support. How important are gestures like these in the current situation?
It's a difficult time for everyone all over the world. The most important thing is that we all stay healthy. Staying at home all day can get a bit boring after a while. So singing for the fans was a good idea and a welcome change.
Ryo is also training on a spinning bike at home at the moment.
Have you got any tips for battling the boredom at home, especially if you have kids?
We pass the time at home playing a bit of football as far as it goes. Passing games with a little ball can be a lot of fun. Apart from that, I do a lot of singing with the kids.
What kind of songs are sung in the Miyaichi household?
I actually sang "You’ll never walk alone" with my son recently, for example, so he knows that one now. We also sing a lot of Japanese songs as well as songs from nursery school.
Do you have any contact with former teammates who are playing in other countries? How are they dealing with the situation?
Recently I spoke on the phone to Shinji Kagawa, who's now playing at Real Zaragoza. The situation is not quite as good in Spain as it is in Germany at the moment unfortunately. Nevertheless, he's trying to keep fit at home as well as possible and is training every day.
What are you looking forward to the most when it's over?
I'm really looking forward to being in the ground with our fans again. It'll be nice!
