SCHULTZ HAILS PERFORMANCE

Players and officials alike had every reason to be happy with the performance in the 2-1 win at FC Nürnberg on Sunday afternoon. The same could not be said for the hosts, however.

Head coach Timo Schultz: "We saw a very active second-division game today. My team did a good job. We couldn't prevent everything because Nürnberg are a good side, but all in all I think we deserved to be in the lead. Unfortunately, we passed up the opportunity to extend it. The game took another turn when they pulled one back. Nürnberg gave it all they had. We were rocking and can be glad not to have conceded the equaliser."

Andreas Bornemann (director of sport): "The lads showed great mentality. That's a hallmark of this team, though we would have liked to have settled it earlier. We invested a lot of time to draw the right conclusions from the first third of the season. We persuaded the right players to join us and then players like Guido Burgstaller came back from injury. We're on the right track now, but we haven't forgotten where we came from. We'd do well now to try to bring a similar performance to the pitch every week. If we do, we'll pick up points. I'm glad we were able to win at one of our immediate rivals."

Guido Burgstaller: "In winter we drew the right conclusions from the autumn. It wasn't all bad, but a lot wasn't good. We talked about it and worked hard and you're seeing that bear fruit now. We never looked at the table. We always wanted to perform, everything else was and is secondary. We obviously want to win as many games as possible. I'm confident we can pick up the odd point or two if we perform like that."

Philipp Ziereis: "I've just been listening to Guido and there's not a lot I can add. We're on a roll and have a quality team. If we'd scored a third, we'd have had peace and quiet earlier. We ended up conceding but defended well to the end. The fact we're winning games like that speaks for us. We want to keep our run going now and approach every game like we did today to get as many points as possible."

Robert Klauß (FCN coach): "Congratulations to St. Pauli on a deserved away win. We didn't offer enough today and it wasn't good enough as far as the basics are concerned. We didn't work hard enough to earn anything. Only the last 20 minutes was OK for me. Our tackling was terrible, we didn't have enough intensity and we failed to hoover up the second balls, which puts you exactly in the kind of situations you want to avoid against St. Pauli. We're not happy at all with the display today."

Lukas Mühl (FC Nürnberg): "I defended poorly for both their goals, so it was a day to forget for me. These things happen in football unfortunately. We saw what was possible in the last 20 minutes, but we didn't play with enough consistency today."
