No fear, no pain and full of zip – Buchtmann is back

After more than three months out of action with osteitis pubis, Christopher Buchtmann is back in full training. Having played through the pain barrier in the first half of the season, the midfielder is delighted to be fit again and ready to play his part in the end-of-season run-in.

"I've made a full recovery and feel good," said Buchtmann with a broad grin on his face. Sidelined since early December, the midfielder comfortably negotiated a practice match with the Under-23s on Sunday and the blood lactate test on Tuesday and cannot wait to get back to business.

"I had a problem somewhere with my posture, which resulted in an inflammation of the pubis symphysis," said Buchtmann. The Unterhaching-based non-medical practitioner Ralph Frank corrected the misalignment, which had developed over many years, and prescribed new insoles for the 25-year-old's football boots, running shoes, and personal footwear. "I feel unrestrained again now and it's great! The fear and the pain have gone and I'm full of power," he said, happy to be able to stay behind after training again for his customary extra shooting practice without any worries.

After six weeks of complete rest and the decisive visit to Unterhaching, Buchti started work on his recovery at the ENDO Rehab Centre in late January and was a regular visitor to the training complex from February. "I trained twice every day – at the ENDO in the morning and the training ground in the afternoon. I feel fit, but you're never back to 100% until you start playing again." Taking part in the practice match for the Under-23s against the Under-19s did Buchtmann the world of good, both physically and mentally: "It was great to be back on the ball in a game again. I was only meant to play one half, but I felt so good I carried on for the full 90 minutes."

All this means Buchtmann is back in the reckoning for a place in Markus Kauczinski's squad going into the seven-game run-in, which begins with visit of SV Sandhausen a week on Sunday (kick-off: 1330 CET). The midfielder is "really fired up" and would play right now if he could but understands that it isn't as simple as that: "I know I won't play straightaway, but I feel good and hope to be involved against Sandhausen. I'll continue working on my fitness and want to help the team as best I can."
