SOBOTA: "THESE GAMES ARE WHY WE PLAY FOOTBALL"

After the 1-0 stoppage-time win over FC Heidenheim we went to the mixed zone to capture the post-match reaction. Surprisingly, we came across some happy and relieved St. Pauli players.

Bernd Nehrig: "In the first half we accepted not getting that much space against a compact Heidenheim side. After the break our movement was better and our play had more momentum. In the end we deserved to win because we never gave up and we remained patient, though we know we can make the odd adjustment here and there during the international break."

Christopher Buchtmann: "We never gave up and in the second half we showed a different face. After making the adjustment we had a man over in midfield and more space, which led to all those corners. In the end I'm glad one of them finally ended up in the net."

Marc Hornschuh: " We regrouped in the dressing room at half-time and after that we brought more energy onto the pitch and created chances. We kept believing we could score right to the end and thankfully we did. It was right exactly the right time for such a home win."

Waldemar Sobota: "These games are why we play football. We really wanted it. Heidenheim made things very difficult for us in the first half. We had few solutions and just had to do better. We managed to do that but mustn't forget that we still have a lot of work ahead of us."

Aziz Bouhaddouz: "It wasn't a good game by either team, especially in the first half. We didn't exert enough pressure and gave the ball away too often. It was completely different in the second half, but no one could have had any complaints if we'd come away with one point."

Daniel Buballa: "We're overjoyed with the three points. We were desperate to win and tried everything. A last-minute win like this is the best thing there is."

Marnon Busch (FC Heidenheim): "This performance, especially in the first half, is something we have to build on. St. Pauli changed things round at half-time. They made better use of the space as a result and we stopped winning the key tackles."

John Verhoek (FC Heidenheim): "It's always nice to play at the Millerntor and today we gave a superb team performance. We gave nothing away at the back and St. Pauli seemed a bit jaded in the first half. The late goal was bitterly disappointing for us, of course, but that's football. We can be satisfied with the performance but not with the result."

Marc Schnatterer (FC Heidenheim): "So soon after the game I feel a bit angry and empty. It's unbelievable. We defended everything here today. We even scraped the ball off the line first before the late goal. It hurts to lose."
