Fürth fact file

Next up for the Boys in Brown is a trip to Greuther Fürth on Sunday (1330 CET). As usual, we've put together a few facts and figures on our opponents for you.

Yearning for a clean sheet

In the 14 matches played so far, Fürth have not managed to end the game without conceding a goal. The only other team not to register a clean sheet is Jahn Regensburg. Fürth have let in 27 goals in that time, with only FC Heidenheim conceding more (28). Moreover, the opposition have put three past them in five of their last eight games. Their sole clean sheet to date came in a 5-0 win at SV Morlautern in the first round of the DFB Cup.

Away drought

Fürth drew 1-1 at VfL Bochum last time out, the 12th game in a row in which they have failed to take three points away from home. Their last away win came more than seven months ago, a 2-0 defeat of Heidenheim at the beginning of April.

Worst-ever start

Too many goals conceded and the winless run away from home have led to Fürth making their worst start to a second division campaign ever. Their hitherto lowest total after 14 games (when converted to the three-point rule) was 14 in the 1981-82 season.

A rare feeling

Fans and players alike haven't had many opportunities to celebrate taking the lead this season, as the Cloverleaves have edged in front just five times (three wins, one draw, one defeat). Only Kaiserslautern have had less occasion to savour the sight of the scoreboard (twice). By comparison, the Boys in Brown have taken the lead eight times (five wins, three draws).

Caligiuri in the goals

After scoring for Mainz in a 2-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund on 24 November 2012, Marco Caligiuri did not hit the target for almost five years. The defensive leader's goal drought finally came to an end 1,758 days later, when he got his name on the scoresheet in the 3-1 home win over Fortuna Düsseldorf. The 33-year-old appears to have got a taste for it now, however, as he found the net not only in the recent 3-2 defeat at Regensburg but also in the 1-1 draw at Bochum. His three goals have taken him to the top of the internal goalscoring rankings.

Goals galore late in the half

This season a total of 41 goals have been scored in games involving Fürth, who have contributed 15 themselves. The final quarter of an hour of each half has been especially prolific in this respect, with Fürth conceding six goals after the 31st minute and six after the 76th minute, plus another one in time added on. Damir Buric's team are also at their most dangerous in these phases, however, scoring four times in the quarter of an hour before half- and full-time. There's no lack of action, then, when the end of the half approaches.
