Jos Luhukay will leave FC St. Pauli by mutual agreement at the end of the season after the involved parties sat down together immediately after the final game at Wehen Wiesbaden to go over the current campaign.
Jos Luhukay: "When the club under the then management offered me the opportunity to take charge of St. Pauli, we developed a clear set of expectations: to define and strengthen our footballing ambitions, to make success on the pitch the focus of the daily work with the team, and to set new incentives to wake the club up to a certain extent. In footballing terms, we got near this target thanks to a decent home record and some excellent performances against the league's top sides, but nevertheless we cannot be satisfied. A string of disappointing displays away from home prevented a better final placing. I would certainly do some things differently as far as the public expression of internally desired and necessary criticism is concerned, but for me it was only ever about the cause and the success of the club. I'd like to wish FC St. Pauli all the best in continuing to introduce the necessary changes in the future and am incredibly grateful for the chance to have worked for this wonderful and special club."
Andreas Bornemann: "As Jos correctly points out, he was appointed to "put his finger on some uncomfortable truths". That's what was agreed when I arrived. He did that, perhaps pressing a bit too hard for the club's liking at times. Nevertheless, with his undoubted expertise and desire to be successful he exposed shortcomings, transitioned young players to the first team, and introduced necessary changes of direction from which we will continue to benefit in the future. With two derby wins in a season, and as our first foreign coach, Jos has secured himself a place in the club's history. We are in an ongoing process of development that we wish to see continued by a different head coach next season."
Oke Göttlich: "The board would like to thank Jos Luhukay for some unforgettable moments this season."
