SIX-STAR ST. PAULI WIN OPENING GAME IN DETROIT

In perfect Hamburg weather FC St. Pauli won the first friendly of their US tour 6-2 against Detroit City on Saturday evening. Sami Allagui (2), Seung-Won Lee, Marcell Sobotta, Dimitrios Diamantakos and Luca Zander got the goals for the Boys in Brown, Trevor Amann and Rafael Mentzingen replied for the home side.
The setting could hardly have been better for the first game on American soil in the club's history. Despite the pouring rain, 7,264 people flocked to the sold-out Keyworth Stadium, many of them joining an organised march by both sets of fans. The atmosphere was already electric even before the game had kicked off.
With just eight minutes gone, the home fans had even more reason to celebrate when striker Trevor Amann popped up unmarked in front of Philipp Heerwagen's goal and netted on the rebound after the keeper had kept out his initial effort. The Boys in Brown hit back immediately, however, turning the game round with three goals in the space of eleven minutes through Sami Allagui (2) and Seung-Won Lee. The pick of the three was the effort by Under-23 forward Lee, who met a Maurice Litka corner on the volley and smashed it first-time into the net. Waldemar Sobota was then allowed space to shoot just before half-time, but his attempt struck the crossbar, ensuring it remained 3-1 at the break.
Markus Kauczinski made five changes during the interval and changed his formation a little. It had negligible effect on his side's flowing football, however, and the newly introduced Marcell Sobotta added a fourth in the 54th minute. Thirteen minutes later fellow substitute Dimitrios Diamantakos shrugged off several challenges in the Detroit box and rifled a left-foot drive past the keeper to make it 5-1.
The pace of the game fell away slightly after the two goals, though both teams continued to threaten in the box. With four minutes of regulation time left, Detroit forward Rafael Mentzingen reduced the deficit when he stuck the ball past Robin Himmelmann from close range. Almost immediately, however, Luca Zander restored his side's four-goal advantage to put the seal on a 6-2 victory.
After the final whistle, the fans stayed behind to celebrate with the players, leaving Kauczinski visibly impressed: "This is an incredible party here! It was a lively game of football befitting of the occasion. The support from both sets of fans and the spirit around the ground was sensational."
