SCHULTZ: "NEVER A DULL MOMENT AT BOCHUM"

After the 2-2 draw at VfL Bochum, we caught up with Timo Schultz, Christopher Avevor, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Bochum coach Thomas Reis.
Head coach Timo Schultz: “There’s never a dull moment here at Bochum. On the whole, I prefer late goals over early ones. It wouldn’t be right to say we’d have deserved a win, but at least we had the chance to win it. I have to pay my team a huge compliment. We didn’t do a lot wrong in the first half, but the diagonal balls were lacking. That was better in the second half. All in all, most of Bochum’s chances came from misplaced passes or set pieces and we had their power under control. Basically, our game plan worked well, which is pleasing. The lads can play football. We have to maintain this form now and can’t afford to let up. We aren’t where we want to be yet. On the contrary, we still have a long way to go in our development.”
Daniel-Kofi Kyereh: “We never gave the game up and that’s why we got a point today. It didn’t look like we’d get anything here for much of the game, but we earned the point in the last 25 minutes. Compliments to the team. We set out to put the cup game behind us right away. Not everything we tried came off early on, and we didn’t play well in the final third at times, but we got the response we wanted. Compliments to the lads who came on from the bench as well.”
Christopher Avevor: “We played well, especially in the second half, but never really threatened their goal. We’re still lacking a bit of punch in that respect. We ran another risk with the introduction of Finn Ole Becker and Lukas Daschner and got our reward.“
Bochum coach Thomas Reis: “It was a game where we dictated the proceedings for a good 80 minutes. We could have got more from it, especially in the first half. After taking a deserved 2-0 lead we lost our momentum. We just tried to see the game out and conceded far too easily. There was a element of slapstick involved late on and we lost our shape. We almost ended up losing the game as a result, which would have been a disaster. It hurts because we’d have deserved to win. We have to keep going now and take the positives from the game, even though it feels a bit like a defeat.”
